Starting at 5 PM, Brian McKnight with radio station 94.7 The Wave will be hosting Santa Monica's tree lighting ceremony as well as providing FREE musical entertainment, including an acoustic set of favorite holiday songs.

Even if you have "been there, done that", Third Street Promenade is always a fun place to go for people-watching, something that won't cost you a dime. Well, parking is only free for...
the first 2 hours and then $1 for every 1/2 hour thereafter ($7 max), or a flat rate of $3 after 6 PM. I suggest going at least 1-2 hours earlier so that you can find parking and enjoy the sunset by the beach. Check out this helpful walking map for things to do and see (and the parking structures). After (or before) the Winterlit Celebration, continue the fun at the outdoor ice skating rink about 2 blocks away (see Cheap Date Idea #35).

Approximate cost of creative date idea = FREE + $3 Parking.
Actual value of the cheap date idea = Priceless.
